In Canada, the wedding is not over until the 'Gift-Opening' is over.
On the morning following the day of the wedding, everyone gathers for brunch and gift-opening.

I'm thinking 'The Gift-Opening' was not only another excuse to party...
...it was an opportunity to say "good-bye" to new friends and family.
